Pairings
Find your match.
Pairings is a cross-platform mobile application designed in a single semester. Its purpose is to find users the best match to their food or wine. It gives users the ability to search for wine just by entering the type of wine. Or, search for a food. Once you find a food or wine you really like, you can save your new favorite, right from the result list.
However, the best part, is being able to enter a food or a wine, and find a perfect pairing.
Hence, Pairings.
Background.
This was a project that my team and I created as our capstone project for my B.S. in Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I worked primarily on the front end of the application, I was the lead front end team member. The project was divided up into front end, back end, database, and API. We designed this project from start to finish, learning along the way.

Aim.
Our team was tasked with finding an existing problem, and then to create a solution to that problem. After we discovered our unique problem, we knew we wanted to make sure our solution was able to be in the hands of as many people as posisble, so we knew it had to be a mobile application.
The problem?
Wine pairing.
The solution?
Pairings.
Choosing a wine pairing can really make or break a meal. Finding the right pairing takes expertise and experience, two things most people don't have. Whether you're at home, at resturant, or on the go, you can rest assured that your pairing choice will no longer ruin your meal. We've made it easy for users to find the perfect pairing to go with their wine or meal. And, since we already had the information about food and wine, we allowed users to be able to search for different foods and wines so they can get the information they need.

Unfortunately the project had to end here.
It would've been out of scope for the course.
Insights.
We started this project from the ground up, not knowing how to execute our idea. We learned the programming language as we went along, and it took a lot of YouTube, but I can say I'm proud of our work.
There were a bunch of things that I was not satisfied with, mainly due to time and technical limitations. We had more ideas than we had time, and that was alright. I wish I could've been able to create product pages for the search items and pairings or get the saved results to populate, but my efforts were needed in other areas, so I had to do my best to refine what I had and deliver the focus.
Lessons learned.
Anything is possible, as long as you try.
Plan and account for the unexpected.
There's no "I" in team.
Design with a plan.
Understand what's priority.
Don't be too attached to an idea, adjust and move forward.
If we could've continued.
